Amid ongoing global supply chain disruptions and rising fuel prices, the logistics industry is being forced to rethink traditional delivery models. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently urging industries and citizens to use fuel judiciously amid mounting supply concerns, road-based last-mile logistics networks are facing growing operational and economic pressure.
According to data from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and NITI Aayog, fuel accounts for nearly 30–45 per cent of last-mile delivery expenditure across semi-urban and rural logistics networks. As diesel prices continue to rise, maintaining profitability through conventional ground transport is becoming increasingly challenging for logistics operators.
Globally, the transition towards electric aerial logistics is already gaining momentum. In Rwanda, Zipline’s autonomous drone network now handles a majority of the country’s time-sensitive medical deliveries, reducing dependence on diesel-powered transport in regions with limited road infrastructure. Similarly, in the United States, programmes such as UPS Flight Forward and Alphabet’s Wing have demonstrated significant reductions in last-mile logistics costs through electric drone operations.
These developments indicate that cargo drone logistics is moving beyond the experimental stage and becoming a viable part of modern logistics infrastructure.
Against this backdrop, BonV Aero believes India’s current fuel challenges could accelerate the adoption of unmanned cargo aviation for last-mile delivery operations.
The company’s cargo drone platforms, Air Hans and Air Orca, are designed for logistics operations in areas where road transport becomes inefficient due to congestion, terrain limitations, fuel dependency, or inadequate infrastructure.
