As part of a major push towards cleaner air, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that starting November 1, 2025, only BS-VI, CNG, or electric commercial vehicles will be permitted entry into the national capital. The announcement was made during the launch of the Air Pollution Mitigation Plan 2025.
“Any vehicle, from November 1, 2025, that arrives in Delhi will need to be a BS6, CNG, or EV commercial vehicle,” stated Gupta in a press conference.
Emphasizing the government’s determination to tackle pollution, CM Gupta stated that the aim is to realize a “Clean, Green and Healthy Delhi.”
“Environment Day is just around the corner, and air pollution in Delhi is an issue that concerns all of us. We have been enduring air pollution for years. We dream – Clean Delhi, Green Delhi, Healthy Delhi. I am extremely glad that our Environment Department and Minister have proposed a great Air Pollution Mitigation Plan 2025,” she further added.
Delhi to Get First Artificial Rain Through Cloud Seeding
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Delhi government will shortly induce artificial rain in the city using cloud seeding, with assistance from eminent research institutions.
“Very soon, Delhi will have its first artificial rain through cloud seeding,” Gupta disclosed.
The government has already entered into an MoU with IIT Kanpur to implement a pilot project of cloud seeding as a part of its overall strategy to fight air pollution through scientific innovation.
“To curb and eradicate pollution, we will be entering MoUs with all our science organizations, which will utilize their new innovations to assist the Delhi government in the battle against pollution. For instance, the Delhi government has entered into an MoU with IIT Kanpur, which is cloud seeding and artificial rain, which we have sanctioned to begin as a pilot project,” Gupta said.
Dust Control Measures & Tech-Based Monitoring
For the reduction of dust pollution, the Delhi government is set to use mist sprayers in areas prone to pollution and impose stringent measures on high-rise complexes.
“It will be obligatory to fit anti-smog guns in every high-rise building, particularly commercial buildings more than 3,000 metres, malls, hotels, etc. and because of this, dust control will decrease in the whole Delhi,” the CM further elaborated.
The government also plans to trace and scrap end-of-life vehicles with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at every entry point and petrol stations.
“We will fit Automatic Number Plate Registration (ANPR) Recognition cameras across all the points of entry in Delhi, which will be capable of detecting end-of-life vehicles. The cameras will also be fitted at all petrol pumps, and we can detect end-of-life vehicles. We can, together, address the big issue of pollution in Delhi,” stated Gupta.
