Yutong, a Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturer, in collaboration with battery partner CATL, has unveiled a battery pack boasting an extended service life of up to 15 years or 1.5 million kilometres. Notably, this battery maintains its capacity within the first 1,000 cycles, promising sustained performance over its lifespan.
The innovative battery technology will be integrated into forthcoming electric buses by Yutong Bus and trucks by Yutong Heavy Industries, reinforcing Yutong’s position as a major player in China’s bus manufacturing sector. Beyond domestic markets, Yutong also exports its vehicles to various countries including Qatar, France, and England.
Alongside the long-lasting battery, Yutong has introduced a power battery designed to endure a decade of service or one million kilometers. Although specifics differentiating the performance of this power battery from the long-life variant remain undisclosed, it remains a notable advancement in battery technology.
Details regarding the specific cell chemistry employed by CATL in these batteries for Yutong remain undisclosed.
Yutong’s partnership with CATL dates back to 2012 and was recently extended until 2032, affirming their commitment to advancing battery technology for commercial vehicles.
CATL’s endeavors toward extending battery life aren’t limited to commercial vehicles; the company has also collaborated with EV manufacturer Nio to develop batteries ensuring 85 percent of their original capacity after 15 years, catering to the needs of battery replacement requirements in the electric vehicle market.
