Qualcomm Inc. inaugurated its design centre in Chennai, India, with the ceremony officiated by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics, and IT, alongside Cristiano Amon, President and CEO of Qualcomm Inc. This centre is dedicated to developing wireless connectivity solutions, focusing on enhancing WiFi technologies and contributing significantly to Qualcomm’s global research and development efforts in 5G Cellular technology.
With an investment of Rs 177.27 crore, the newly established centre is expected to create employment for up to 1,600 skilled technology professionals, aligning with India’s commitment to digital progress and its “Make in India” initiative. This investment signals Qualcomm’s dedication to fostering growth and development in India’s dynamic workforce and indigenous design ecosystem.
The centre will be pivotal in advancing Qualcomm’s wireless products, including WiFi technologies, and will actively contribute to the company’s global research and development efforts in 5G Cellular technology. Rahul Patel, Group General Manager of Connectivity, Broadband & Networking (CBN) at Qualcomm Technologies, emphasized the centre’s importance in shaping the future of connectivity worldwide, with a particular emphasis on India.
