Mahindra is set to unveil its new lineup for the 2024 model year, featuring the highly anticipated 5-door Thar as a standout addition. The SUV has garnered attention with seven potential names, among which the resurrected Armada holds particular significance. The other trademarked names include Thar Savannah, Thar Gladius, Thar Cult, Thar Rex, Thar Roxx, and Thar Centurion for the extended model.
The potential naming of the 5-door variant as the Thar Armada carries historical significance, harking back to the popular SUV from the 1990s that was a mainstay in the Indian market for nearly a decade before being succeeded by the Bolero.
Distinguishing itself from the 3-door model, the Thar 5-Door will feature a longer wheelbase, accommodating the additional doors. Camouflaged test mules hint at a modified design, incorporating interior upgrades such as a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen and the introduction of a sunroof.
Mahindra’s objective with the 5-door Thar is to broaden its appeal by providing an all-terrain SUV with heightened comfort and practicality. The powertrain is expected to retain the current 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engines, paired with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
Scheduled for a debut in mid-2024, the 5-door Thar is anticipated to be priced higher than its predecessor, reflecting the enhanced features and capabilities it brings to the market.
