BYD has now unveiled the Dolphin Surf EV in Europe, a larger and restyled variant of the Seagull electric hatchback that was unveiled in China last year. Although underpinned by the same platform, the Dolphin Surf has newer design cues, such as redesigned front and rear bumpers, which make it bigger and give it a different look.
Slightly Bigger Than Seagull – Built for Europe
While the Chinese-market Seagull is already a bestseller, the European model, or Dolphin Surf, has had a couple of modifications. It is commonly known as the Dolphin Mini in China, but surprisingly, it isn’t a direct version of the normal BYD Dolphin that recently gained a MY26 facelift.
Design & Features
In comparison to the Seagull, the Dolphin Surf receives refreshed styling with new front and rear bumpers and new side body cladding. These enhance the car’s unique look. A strong BYD logo is located on the front and rear.
The interior is not too different, still featuring the 10.1-inch rotatable infotainment screen. Safety-wise, the Dolphin Surf comes with an ADAS suite, incorporating features such as automatic emergency braking – a mandatory feature for European roads.
Dimensions
The BYD Dolphin Surf is 3,990 mm long, 1,720 mm wide, and 1,590 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,500 mm. This is 210 mm longer, 5 mm wider, and 50 mm higher than the Seagull. Its new design, improved safety features, and aggressive pricing make the BYD Dolphin Surf promise to leave its mark in the European electric hatchback market.
