LANXESS has inaugurated its India Application Development Centre (IADC) in Thane, Mumbai, marking an expansion of its innovation and customer service capabilities in the country. The new facility, housed within LANXESS House, serves as a technology hub for two key business units and has room for further expansion to support future growth.
Matthias Zachert, Chairman of the Board of Management, LANXESS AG, highlighted the strategic importance of India as a key growth region, describing the IADC as a commitment to delivering market-specific solutions and fostering innovation. He noted that the inauguration coincides with LANXESS’ 20th anniversary, making it a double milestone for the company.
The India Application Development Centre (IADC) will enhance LANXESS’ ability to develop high-performance, localized solutions, solidifying India’s importance in the company’s innovation-driven growth strategy. Initially, the centre will encompass two core business units: Lubricant Additives, which specializes in high-performance additives, synthetic base fluids, and ready-to-use lubricants, and Material Protection Products, which provides antimicrobial, disinfection, and preservation solutions.
The facility will offer advanced testing and research capabilities, including studies on lubricant friction and wear, the synthesis and testing of new materials, and the evaluation of antimicrobial performance in paints, emulsions, and water-based chemistries. The objective is to create tailored solutions for India’s expanding industrial and consumer markets, ensuring businesses benefit from high-quality, market-relevant innovations.
Namitesh Roy Choudhury, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, LANXESS India, described the centre as a strategic step in LANXESS’ transformation into a specialty chemicals company, shifting towards less cyclical business areas and critical applications such as sustainable mobility and consumer protection.
LANXESS has a significant presence in India, with approximately 800 employees across its operations. The company operates two major production hubs: one in Jhagadia, Gujarat, which specializes in Rhein Chemie, Liquid Purification Technologies, and Material Protection Products, and another in Nagda, Madhya Pradesh, which focuses on Flavors & Fragrances.
