Surat-based Suchi Semicon has announced plans to invest over $100 million to establish Gujarat’s first Semiconductor Assembly and Testing (OSAT) facility, scheduled for completion by November 2024. The plant will cover an initial area of 30,000 square feet and is designed to produce up to 3 million chips daily. This project is expected to create up to 1,200 jobs, significantly contributing to local economic growth.
The facility will cater to critical sectors such as consumer electronics, automobiles, telecommunications, and wearables. Suchi Semicon’s initiative is set to enhance India’s semiconductor production capabilities, addressing global demand by localizing semiconductor assembly and testing. This strategy will help reduce supply chain lead times and logistical costs, benefiting companies with design operations in India.
The company aims to offer competitive pricing and high-quality services in the global semiconductor market. In support of skill development, Suchi Semicon has signed MOUs with engineering institutions, including SVNIT (Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology) and Gujarat Technological University (GTU), to cultivate a highly skilled workforce.
Ashok Mehta, Founder of Suchi Semicon, stated, “India’s semiconductor industry is at a crucial juncture of growth and transformation. Our objective is to meet the rising global demand for semiconductors while mitigating supply chain inefficiencies. By creating up to 1,200 local jobs and utilizing advanced technology, we aim to deliver competitive pricing and top-tier services on a global scale.”
Co-Founder Shetal Mehta added, “This investment is not just about scaling up production; it’s about empowering the local community through job creation and skill development. This venture will set a new benchmark for regional semiconductor manufacturing and bolster India’s role as a significant player in the global tech industry.”
