Raptee.HV, the Chennai-based electric motorcycle startup, has achieved a historic milestone. The company has secured strategic funding from the Technology Development Board (TDB), Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.
This makes Raptee.HV the first electric motorcycle OEM in India to receive TDB’s financial backing. The achievement highlights Raptee’s research-first approach and groundbreaking work in high-voltage mobility technology.
Driving Innovation with High-Voltage Technology
Raptee.HV is pioneering the use of electric car high-voltage (HV) systems in motorcycles. This innovation delivers car-level performance, reliability, and charging convenience to two-wheelers.
The new funding will help Raptee advance its proprietary HV technology and capture opportunities in the USD 1 billion performance electric motorcycle category.
CEO & Co-Founder Dinesh Arjun said:
“This support from TDB is a strong endorsement of our mission to redefine performance electric mobility, from India, for the world. The trust placed in us by TDB and earlier by ARAI-AMTIF strengthens our resolve to push the boundaries of motorcycle electrification.”
Government Support Strengthens Raptee’s Mission
This is not the first time Raptee has received government recognition. In 2021, the company was awarded a non-dilutive grant of ₹3.25 crore from ARAI-AMTIF, under the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
With TDB’s investment, Raptee joins the league of pioneering Indian innovations backed by the Board, including the TATA Indica and Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine.
Here’s a quick timeline of Raptee’s funding milestones:
Year | Funding Body | Support Type | Amount / Recognition |
---|---|---|---|
2021 | ARAI-AMTIF (Ministry of Heavy Industries) | Grant | ₹3.25 crore |
2024 | Technology Development Board (DST, Govt. of India) | Strategic Funding | First EV Motorcycle OEM to be backed |
Why Raptee.HV Matters for India’s EV Future
Motorcycles make up two-thirds of India’s two-wheeler market. Their electrification is crucial for achieving India’s 2030 target of 30% EV penetration in this segment.
Unlike many EV players that adapt existing platforms, Raptee has spent over six years developing its technology from the ground up. The result is a motorcycle architecture designed for performance-first electrification, not incremental upgrades.
The Road Ahead
By combining cutting-edge HV technology with strong government backing, Raptee.HV is positioning itself as a global leader in performance electric motorcycles.
This milestone signals a bold commitment from both the company and the government to advance next-generation mobility.
