Google Maps is introducing six new features in India to enhance user experience and encourage sustainable travel. The updates, based on artificial intelligence and local partnerships, are set to roll out this week and address prevalent commuting challenges in the country. One key feature is the narrow road avoidance system. Google has developed an AI model to estimate road widths using satellite imagery, Street View, and other data.

NHAI plans to implement the GNSS-based Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system within the existing FASTag ecosystem, initially using a hybrid model where both RFID-based ETC and GNSS-based ETC will operate simultaneously. Dedicated GNSS lanes will be available at toll plazas, allowing vehicles using the GNSS-based ETC to pass through freely.
