The Amrita Automotive Research and Technology Centre (AARTC), a collaborative initiative between Automotive Test Systems (ATS) and Amrita University, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) laboratory at its Coimbatore campus.
The new facility is designed to research and development in electric vehicle (EV) technology, fostering stronger collaboration between industry and academia.
The laboratory was inaugurated by Latha Chembrakalam, Vice President and Head of Technical Centre India at Continental Automotive, Dr. Ramadhas Arumugam Sakunthalai, Director of GARC, Rajesh D, Vice President of Volvo Group Trucks Technology, and Bhaktha Keshavachar, CEO of Chara Technologies.
Cutting-Edge EV Testing, Simulation Capabilities
The newly inaugurated EV tech center features an advanced 48kW electric motor test bench, a battery test lab, and a simulation lab, complementing the existing research infrastructure. This facility is integrated with Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) labs, providing a comprehensive platform for EV testing and simulation.
Additionally, the 160kW test bench and chassis dynamometer are already being utilized extensively by industry for motor and motor controller testing and development. This expansion will further enhance the center’s capabilities in powertrain optimization, emissions testing, real-life driving assessments (RLDA), vehicle dynamics, noise, vibration & harshness (NVH), and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
A Decade Of Industry-Academia Collaboration
Celebrating a decade of operation, AARTC has been instrumental in advancing automotive research and innovation. Over the past ten years, it has functioned as a critical center for R&D in powertrain technologies, emissions compliance, vehicle safety, and sustainable mobility solutions.
The center continues to advance cutting-edge developments in EV technology, aiding both industry players and academic institutions in creating safer, more sustainable, and high-performance mobility solutions.
With the establishment of the new EV lab, AARTC is set to enhance India’s electric vehicle research landscape, offering the essential infrastructure to expedite the shift towards a cleaner, more efficient, and technology-driven future for mobility.
