Tesla, the global automaker, is reportedly seeking a local partner to initiate its operations in India, as per a report by The Hindu Businessline dated April 9. Sources within the electric vehicle giant suggest ongoing discussions with Reliance Industries to potentially form a joint venture aimed at establishing a manufacturing facility within the country.
An individual familiar with the matter mentioned, “Talks are in preliminary stages and have been ongoing for over a month.” They emphasized that this potential collaboration should not be interpreted as Reliance Industries’ foray into the automotive sector. Rather, the objective of the joint venture, according to the source, is to bolster electric vehicle capacities in India.
Another source, privy to the discussions, indicated, “While the specifics of Reliance Industries’ role are yet to be finalized, it is anticipated that the Indian conglomerate might play a significant role in setting up the manufacturing facility and supporting infrastructure for Tesla in India.”
