Scaler Innovation Lab has partnered with Bengaluru-based technology startup Gahan AI to innovate autonomous navigation systems with specific applications for the mining segment. The partnership is intended to address the challenges of unstructured and unmapped environments, where map-based navigation systems tend to fail.
Through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding, Scaler and Gahan AI will focus on developing cutting-edge mobility solutions that enhance both safety and operational efficiency in difficult mining environments—especially under unpredictable weather conditions.
Bringing together Scaler’s robust network of engineering and business students with Gahan AI’s expertise in artificial intelligence and autonomous technology, the partnership will serve as a platform for experiential learning and real-world innovation.
Students of engineering at Scaler School of Technology will help develop AI systems to make decisions in real time within dynamic, unstructured environments. At the same time, students at the Scaler School of Business will assist the venture by developing commercialization plans, such as go-to-market strategies, pricing models, and business operations.
The partnership solves a pressing problem in the mining industry—vehicular safety. The Directorate General of Mines Safety in India states that around 40% of fatalities due to mining-related accidents are a result of haulage accidents. Globally, over 70% of fatal incidents in surface mining are attributed to vehicle-related issues due to insufficiently mapped terrain by the International Council on Mining and Metals. By eliminating reliance on existing maps, Gahan AI attempts to reduce such risks using its autonomous mobility solutions.
In addition to this, Gahan AI will also organize special workshops and hackathons for students in Scaler. Students showing high potential will be provided with opportunities to work as interns and be mentored in different business verticals of the startup. The leadership of Gahan AI will also actively participate in student startups that are incubated in the Scaler Innovation Lab.
Under the partnership, Gahan AI will have an on-premise setup in Scaler Innovation Lab, where it would be offering direct assistance to early-stage startups and driving innovation in autonomous technology.
Established in 2022, Gahan AI focuses on autonomous systems for dangerous, uncharted environments within industries such as defense and mining. Its technology consists of AI-based software, sensor fusion technology, and teleoperation capability over a distance. Gahan AI is a member of NVIDIA’s Inception program and has received awards from organizations such as NASSCOM and AICRA.
Scaler, founded in 2019, provides industry-centric tech learning via platforms like Scaler Academy, Scaler Neovarsity, and Scaler School of Business. The firm has undergraduate and postgraduate programs as well as B2B talent offerings, and is associated with over 1,000 firms globally. Its funders include Peak XV Partners, Tiger Global, and Lightrock India.
