The Ministry of Road, Transport, and Highways (MoRTH) has implemented several measures to uphold road safety in Ladakh. Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road, Transport, and Highways, highlighted these initiatives while responding to inquiries about road safety measures in Ladakh during a Lok Sabha session.
The Ministry has issued guidelines encompassing various road safety measures, including crash barriers, road signs, markings, delineators, studs, junction improvements, and traffic calming measures. Moreover, clear instructions have been given for the repair and maintenance of damaged National Highways in Ladakh.
Gadkari emphasized that contractors and concessionaires are mandated to maintain road safety elements and provide ambulances or mobile cranes for incident management as specified in the contract conditions during the operation and maintenance period.
Additionally, in addressing another query, the Union Minister underscored that it is the responsibility of the respective State Government and Urban Local Body concerned to develop and maintain roads in compliance with the Indian Roads Congress (IRC) Codes and guidelines.
