Maruti Suzuki is set to export its first electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, from India to Japan, with a domestic launch scheduled for September. Manufactured at the company’s Gujarat facility, the e-Vitara marks a significant step in Suzuki’s global EV strategy and becomes the fourth India-produced model to be shipped to Japan. It joins the Fronx, Baleno, and the five-door Jimny — the latter sold in Japan under the name “Jimny Nomad” and currently facing a two-year waiting period due to high demand.
As Suzuki’s inaugural electric vehicle, the e-Vitara was unveiled at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo and will be offered in India with three trim levels and two battery pack options. Exclusive specifications include its charging duration and a detailed 0–100 km/h acceleration time, promising competitive performance in the compact EV segment.
This model is the first of four electric vehicles Suzuki plans to introduce, with electric versions of the Fronx, Jimny, and Wagon R also in the pipeline. However, the company has emphasized a cautious approach to electrification, indicating that future EV rollouts will largely depend on how well the e-Vitara is received in the market.
In addition, the e-Vitara will also be adapted into a Toyota-badged EV, expected to be launched as the Urban Cruiser EV, continuing the partnership between the two automakers.
