Suzuki has introduced the Jimny 5-door in Australia under the name ‘Jimny XL,’ complementing its existing three-door model. Manufactured in India and exported to Australia, the Jimny XL boasts a length of 3,985 mm, approximately 340 mm longer than its three-door counterpart. The extended wheelbase of 2,590 mm provides additional space for a functional second row and a more spacious boot.
Visually, the Jimny XL mirrors the Indian version, featuring the same bumper, round headlamps, and distinctive boxy profile. The cabin retains its familiar appearance, now equipped with a larger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, and automatic climate control. The fabric seats enhance ease of cleaning after off-road adventures, while retro-style instrument dials remain a highlight.
Powering the Suzuki Jimny XL is a 1.5-litre petrol engine generating 100 bhp and 130 Nm of peak torque in the Australian variant, slightly less than the India-spec model. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and automatic, with power distributed to all four wheels through the standard 4×4 system.
Noteworthy features include DAB digital radio, adaptive cruise control for automatic variants, and the mandatory advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) to comply with local regulations. While crash testing for the Jimny 5-door is pending, Suzuki Australia has priced the manual version starting from $34,990 (approximately Rs. 19.15 lakh), marking a $3,000 increase compared to the three-door variant. It’s worth noting that the three-door Jimny is imported from Japan to Australia, while India exclusively supplies the five-door version globally. Suzuki Australia has already received over 2,000 pre-orders for the five-door Jimny since its unveiling almost a year ago, with current orders experiencing a waiting period of six to nine months due to high demand.
