Lotus has introduced a line of electric vehicle (EV) chargers designed to outpace existing public charging devices in speed. The newly unveiled Lotus DC charger utilizes liquid cooling technology and can deliver an impressive 450kW of charging power. In just five minutes, this system is capable of adding approximately 90 miles of range.
The charger is the liquid-cooled Power Cabinet, tailored for locations with high energy demands such as motorway rest stops. This cabinet can be paired with the Lotus Charging Terminal, a versatile solution capable of simultaneously charging four cars.
While Lotus has yet to outline a specific deployment strategy for these chargers, the company has confirmed their availability for businesses. Already in use in China, Lotus plans to expand its fast-charging solutions across most European countries and the Middle East by Q2 2024, with Germany and Austria to follow at a later date. Additional market availability details will be disclosed in the future.
Mike Johnstone, the Chief Commercial Officer at Lotus Group, emphasized the company’s commitment to facilitating the transition to electrification. Lotus aims to simplify EV ownership by providing customers with easy, fast, and efficient charging options.
This development aligns with Lotus’s Vision80 strategy, announced in 2018, which outlines the transformation of the brand from a British sports car manufacturer to a global luxury technology brand entirely focused on electric vehicles by 2028. As part of this initiative, Lotus, under the ownership of Geely, is dedicated to creating its range of EV charging solutions.
Having launched its first electric SUV, the Eletre, in 2022, with customer deliveries underway across the UK, Europe, and China, Lotus continues to advance its electric vehicle portfolio. The recent introduction of Emeya, a next-generation electric hyper-GT in early September 2023, further underscores Lotus’s commitment to shaping the future of electric mobility.
