Lotus Cars, the British sports car manufacturer now owned by Chinese automaker Geely, is set to make its official entry into the Indian market on November 9, 2023. Initially, the company plans to introduce a single model, with the intention of expanding its lineup in India at a later stage. These vehicles will be made available throughout the country through Exclusive Motors, a New Delhi-based dealership.
The specific model chosen for its debut in India has not been confirmed yet. Lotus’s global lineup currently consists of four models: the Emira, Eletre, Evija, and Emeya. The Emira is the company’s final internal combustion engine model, while the Evija stands as the brand’s latest flagship electric supercar. The Eletre is their first electric SUV, and the Emeya GT car is expected to be available for sale in 2025.
For the Indian market, reports suggest that Lotus is likely to introduce either the Emira or Eletre first, with the other models to follow in due course. The Emira, being a combustion engine model, would eliminate the need for additional charging infrastructure and could attract buyers looking for a mid-engine sports car. On the other hand, the Eletre would capitalize on the growing demand for electric SUVs in the country.
The Emira offers a choice between an AMG-sourced 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 360 bhp and 430 Nm, or a larger 3.5-liter supercharged V6 petrol engine generating up to 400 bhp and 420 Nm of peak torque. The Eletre SUV, on the other hand, is equipped with a powerful 905 bhp dual-motor all-wheel-drive electric powertrain, enabling a swift 0-100 kmph acceleration in less than 3 seconds and a range of up to 600 km (WLTP).
