In a transformative step toward sustainable industrial growth, Kanpur is set to welcome a massive electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing park, spread across 500 acres and backed by an investment of ₹700 crore. Spearheaded by the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA), the initiative forms a crucial part of the Kanpur Metropolitan Development Vision – 2030 and will be developed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Strategically located, the proposed site offers excellent logistical advantages, including direct access to a dedicated freight corridor. This connectivity is expected to play a key role in ensuring smooth transportation of materials and products, thereby enhancing overall manufacturing efficiency.
The EV park is being designed as a fully integrated production ecosystem. It will host a wide range of facilities dedicated to the manufacturing of electric vehicle components like motors, steel structures, chassis, and lithium-ion batteries. The park will also include units for battery assembly, charger manufacturing, and electronic systems — fostering a vertically integrated supply chain within the complex. A dedicated R&D center will be built to focus on cutting-edge research in EV innovation and green mobility solutions.
Notably, the project places a strong emphasis on empowering small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by creating a supportive cluster for component suppliers and startups. This inclusive approach aims to generate substantial employment and entrepreneurial opportunities across the region, boosting Kanpur’s local economy.
The development aligns with India’s ‘Make in India’ strategy and supports the country’s clean energy vision. Uttar Pradesh has already emerged as a frontrunner in EV adoption, with nearly a quarter of India’s total EVs currently operating within the state. The government has also inked Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹6,000 crore to accelerate EV-related infrastructure and industrial development.
The launch of EV production in Kanpur marks a significant milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s industrial roadmap. With a blend of infrastructure, innovation, and investment, the EV park is poised to position Kanpur as a key player in India’s growing electric mobility sector — driving both economic progress and environmental sustainability.
