Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has unveiled an ambitious plan to establish nearly 600 public EV fast charging stations across India within the next seven years, aiming to have 50 stations operational by December 2024.
Jae Wan Ryu, the Function Head of Corporate Planning at HMIL, has emphasized that the expected substantial growth of the EV market by 2030 will require a solid infrastructure to alleviate customer concerns about long-distance travel. By utilizing Hyundai Motor Corporation’s worldwide expertise in EV and battery technology, HMIL is dedicated to establishing a complete EV ecosystem in India.
To date, HMIL’s charging network has supported over 50,000 charging sessions, delivering 730,000 units of energy to over 10,000 EV customers. In Tamil Nadu, the company has entered into an MoU with the state government to set up 100 charging stations by 2027, with the first 10 expected to be operational by the end of 2024. Customers can utilize these stations around the clock via the myHyundai app, which provides access to more than 10,000 charging points throughout India, in partnership with various collaborators like ChargeZone, Statiq, and Shell India.
The charging stations are engineered to accommodate all four-wheeled EVs made in India, providing competitive rates and extra facilities like dining and retail areas. They are situated in key cities such as Gurugram, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad, and on major routes including the Delhi-Jaipur and Mumbai-Pune highways. The advanced chargers come in various configurations to guarantee a swift charging process.
