HERE Technologies, a global leader in digital mapping, has entered into a strategic partnership with Genesys International to create in-car navigation systems aimed at reducing distracted driving in India. This collaboration will merge HERE’s mapping capabilities with Genesys International’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to deliver integrated safety solutions for vehicles in the country.
The partnership addresses a pressing road safety issue in India, where around 80,000 fatalities occur annually due to road accidents. Data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways indicates that over 3,000 of these deaths are linked to mobile phone usage while driving.
Survey Indicates Public Concern
A recent survey by HERE among Indian road users revealed that 98% of respondents were concerned about road safety. Additionally, 91% of participants agreed that ADAS functions are crucial for enhancing road safety.
The companies aim to develop a navigation solution that integrates live mapping, real-time traffic information, road hazard notifications, and ADAS features into a seamless digital cockpit experience. Powered by artificial intelligence, the system will provide real-time updates on road conditions, speed regulations, traffic trends, and optimized routes for electric vehicles and charging station access.
Bridging Market Gaps
While Indian automakers have started equipping newer models with digital navigation systems, many existing solutions have fallen short of user expectations. The HERE-Genesys partnership seeks to close this gap by blending HERE’s adaptable navigation software with Genesys International’s ADAS technology tailored for Indian roads.
“There is a strong demand from Indian road users for more advanced and accessible vehicle safety features, including ADAS,” said Deon Newman, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Asia Pacific at HERE Technologies. “Our partnership with Genesys International combines global expertise and local innovation to enable automakers to offer intelligent, ADAS-integrated solutions.”
Advancing India’s Automotive Evolution
This collaboration aligns with India’s transition toward software-defined vehicles and connected mobility solutions. As local automakers work to meet global standards, embedded navigation systems integrated with safety and infotainment features are becoming essential.
Sajid Malik, Chairman and Managing Director of Genesys International Corporation, called the partnership a major advancement in road safety and vehicle intelligence. “We are merging our ADAS map technology designed for India with HERE’s global navigation platform to help automakers deliver truly connected and context-aware driving experiences,” Malik said.
Plans for Future Development
Both companies will set up a dedicated mobility innovation center in India, where local teams will co-develop and test solutions tailored to Indian driving conditions. HERE already has a significant presence in India, with over 3,000 employees across offices in three major cities.
HERE provides mapping solutions to nearly all global automakers and top players in the transportation and logistics sectors. Its automotive-grade maps support navigation, driver assistance, and automated driving systems in over 54 million vehicles, with location-based software and data implemented in more than 222 million vehicles worldwide.
Genesys International Corporation, based in Mumbai, offers mapping, surveying, and geospatial services. With more than 23 years of experience and a workforce of 2,000 professionals, the company delivers 3D mapping, ADAS-compatible HD maps, and digital twin platforms to Fortune 500 firms and emerging businesses across automotive, infrastructure, utilities, and e-governance industries.
