Global leader in fan and motor technology, ebm-papst, is set to significantly expand its presence in India with the launch of a new manufacturing facility in Chennai—marking a major milestone in the company’s growth strategy for the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Africa (APAC & MEA) region. This move reinforces India’s rising role as a hub for production, innovation, and regional supply chain strength.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the state-of-the-art facility is scheduled for April 4, on a sprawling 57,600 m² (14.2-acre) site. The first phase of development, covering 23,000 m², represents a €36 million (INR 340 crore) investment and is slated for completion by end-2026. Once fully operational, the plant will create approximately 700 new jobs, significantly boosting local manufacturing capabilities.
Atul Tripathi, Managing Director, ebm-papst India, commented, “This investment demonstrates our long-term commitment to India. By expanding local manufacturing, we’re not only better serving our customers, but also contributing to job creation and the nation’s industrial progress.”
The Chennai facility is a cornerstone of ebm-papst’s “Local for Local” glocalisation strategy, designed to increase supply chain resilience and enable faster, region-specific solutions.
Dr. Klaus Geissdoerfer, CEO of the ebm-papst Group, noted,“Our glocalisation strategy allows us to serve the APAC & MEA region with tailored, high-tech solutions, while staying agile and responsive to market demands.”
Thomas Nuernberger, CSO of the Group and CEO for Air Technology APAC & MEA, added,
“Strengthening local production empowers us to respond swiftly and efficiently to the needs of our Indian customers, while reinforcing supply chain stability.”
The expansion aligns with ebm-papst’s broader digital transformation goals. In 2023, the company launched a new Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Chennai. Spanning 2,800 m², the GCC is home to 300 digital specialists focused on developing intelligent fan technologies and optimizing global business processes.
ebm-papst has been operating in India since 1996, with a footprint that includes four sales offices, two production plants, and several warehouses. With a current workforce of around 375 employees, the company’s new investments will enable it to scale rapidly to meet rising demand across sectors such as data centers, HVAC, clean rooms, industrial ventilation, transportation, and more—all while reinforcing its commitment to sustainability, localisation, and digital innovation.
