The Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) has recently completed its first car crash tests and is now gearing up to disclose the results. According to information disclosed by an Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the BNCAP’s first test outcomes are anticipated to be unveiled either this week or before the end of the year. These crash safety ratings will serve as valuable guidance for consumers in making informed decisions when purchasing vehicles.
Initial plans suggested the BNCAP test would commence in October 2023, but the timeline was slightly adjusted due to the festive season, as reported by Team-BHP.
Several prominent automobile manufacturers, including Kia, Hyundai, Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, and others, have actively participated in the BNCAP tests. This extensive participation by various carmakers aims to gain the trust of Indian consumers by subjecting their vehicles to thorough safety assessments conducted by the BNCAP.
As part of this evaluation program, BNCAP subjects each vehicle to rigorous tests, assessing their structural integrity and safety ratings by applying significant force and using heavy objects. Vehicles weighing up to 3,500 kilograms undergo comprehensive Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP) tests. Subsequently, based on their crash performance and safety measures, the BNCAP rates these vehicles on a scale of 0 to 5, providing crucial safety insights to potential buyers.
