Compared to the newly launched New-gen Astor (ZS HEV), the 2025 MG ZS EV (ES5) features a distinctive look.
The ZS EV stands as one of the pioneering electric vehicles in India, offering an extended realistic range that attracts a broader customer base to electric mobility. It represents MG’s inaugural electric venture and has undergone a significant facelift since its introduction. MG has unveiled the upcoming 2025 ZS EV, featuring a much more radical design than its predecessor.
2025 MG ZS EV Revealed
A new generation of ZS EV, dubbed the ES5, may soon launch in India, potentially replacing the existing model. The currently available ZS EV and the Astor are nearly identical, with the notable exception of the ZS EV’s closed-off grille, a design choice aimed at cost reduction through shared components and sheet metal.
The newly debuted ES5 (ZS EV) and the recently introduced ZS (Astor) are distinct vehicles. The Astor, known globally as the ZS, has its electric variant named the ZS EV.
MG will market the new ES5, replacing the ZS EV, as a distinct model. This marks a shift in naming strategy, with significant changes in design language and materials used. Exciting times ahead. Let’s stay tuned for the official details.
The dimensions also vary. To illustrate, the New ZS (Astor) is 4.43 meters in length and 1.81 meters in width, while the ES5 (ZS EV) extends to 4.48 meters in length and 1.85 meters in width. The ES5 appears significantly more athletic yet retains a sense of sophistication, as evident from the images.
Radical new design
It remains unconfirmed whether the ES5 will adopt the ZS EV name in the future or retain the ES5 designation. The design clearly diverges from the recently unveiled ZS. The vehicle features a split headlight arrangement with a triple LED DRL signature above and the main headlamps situated beneath. The closed grille of the ES5 reflects its reduced need for airflow.
The ES5 features new ORVMs and alloy wheels, as well as distinct sheet metal compared to the recently introduced ZS, which also has a unique window line. At the back, the ES5 boasts a sporty new spoiler, in contrast to the ZS’s more understated appearance. The ES5’s connected rear LED tail-lights enhance its sporty aesthetic.
The powertrain specifics for the ES5 remain undisclosed. Speculations suggest it will share the MG 4 electric hatchback’s foundation, including an LFP battery pack with up to 77 kWh capacity, likely delivering around 520 km range on a single charge The propulsion for the new ES5 (2025 MG ZS EV) could come from a motor with an output of either 168 bhp, 201 bhp, or even 241 bhp.
