Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru is poised to become a central hub for innovative urban air mobility solutions, as Sarla Aviation collaborates with Bangalore International Airport Limited to introduce electric flying taxis.
Recently, two organizations have entered into a collaborative agreement to investigate sustainable air mobility, focusing particularly on electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
The initiative in Karnataka is set to transform air travel with the introduction of seven-seater electric flying taxis, offering a quicker, more environmentally friendly, and efficient mode of transportation.
Although operations might be two to three years from commencement, Sarla Aviation’s electric taxis offer a promise of a cleaner, quieter, and more economical substitute for the traditional helicopter services once available in Bengaluru.
The company based in Bengaluru, founded by Adrian Schmidt, Rakesh Gaonkar, and Shivam Chauhan, leads the way in this transformation.
Sarla Aviation is set to target four of India’s busiest cities—Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and Pune—with the introduction of cost-effective electric aerial taxis. The company’s envisioned route from Bengaluru Airport to Electronics City is expected to take a mere 19 minutes, a significant reduction from the 152 minutes it would take by road, at a fare of Rs 1,700.
“We strive to transform urban air transportation through operational efficiency, decreased carbon emissions, and expandable infrastructure. Our electric flying taxis are poised to establish new standards in dependability and performance, in line with international sustainable aviation benchmarks.” said Schmidt, Sarla Aviation co-founder and CEO.
The collaboration with Sarla Aviation at Bengaluru Airport introduces eVTOL aircraft, offering faster and sustainable air transport to address Bengaluru’s traffic issues.
This initiative represents a significant move towards enhancing urban transportation and fostering a more sustainable travel future.
Regulatory challenges persist, yet the partnership indicates a substantial advancement in tackling urban congestion via sustainable aviation technology.
Sarla Aviation is swiftly becoming a frontrunner in the advanced air mobility industry, spearheading innovation with its eVTOL aircraft. The firm is advancing urban transportation by providing aerial solutions that are cleaner, quicker, and more efficient.
Concentrating on affordable and sustainable air travel, Sarla Aviation tackles congestion issues in India’s major urban areas. Its strategic alliances, such as the partnership with Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport, establish Sarla Aviation as an influential force in defining the future of urban transportation.
The three co-founders were associated with Western air traffic startups: Chauhan was with Joby, while Gaonkar and Schmidt were with Lilium.
