Mercedes-Benz India has launched the locally produced EQS SUV 580 4MATIC, further expanding its Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) lineup in the country. This addition, alongside six other BEVs, highlights Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to sustainable and electric mobility. The EQS SUV 580 4MATIC is equipped with a 1.0-litre K-Series Boosterjet petrol engine featuring Progressive Smart Hybrid technology, available in both manual and automatic transmission options. It caters to customers seeking a combination of cutting-edge technology, luxury, and spaciousness.
Local production of the SUV involves flexible manufacturing, complex supply chains, and advanced battery integration. The model also includes the MBUX Hyperscreen, which is assembled at the Chakan plant. Supporting sustainability efforts, the facility utilizes the R-1234yf refrigerant gas, known for its lower global warming potential compared to traditional alternatives.
Mercedes-Benz India’s BEV portfolio, which also includes models like the EQA, EQB, EQE SUV, EQS sedan, and the Maybach EQS SUV 680, has shown consistent growth. The company remains focused on investing in workforce training and upskilling to manage advanced manufacturing technologies and processes.
